Description

ARTIFACT:

Nice WWII Civil Defense card and envelope from the School of Tropical Medicine in Puerto Rico. The card shows the Civil Defense logo in the top (viewer's) left corner, the letters: "CD" centered inside a white triangle that sits against a dark blue circle. The card reads: "BLOOD BANK OF CIVILIAN DEFENSE", "SCHOOL OF TROPICAL MEDICINE PUERTO RICO", "The officials of the Blood Bank wish to acknowledge your generous cooperation during its first year of operation." The dates "APRIL 6, 1942 – APRIL 6, 1943" are printed along the bottom. The accompanying envelope is addressed to: "MR. KENNETH NELSON LOSEY FIELD PONCE, P.R." and the top left shows the CD logo and beneath reads: "BLOOD BANK CIVILIAN DEFENSE PUERTO RICO" and to the side of the addressee, it reads: "63RD SERV. SQ. MESSAGE CENTER" in black pen ink.
