Nice circa 1900's Frank Jones Portsmouth Ales bottle opener. Portsmouth Brewing Company moose head and figural bottle opener. The opener reads: "CALL FOR FRANK JONES PORTSMOUTH ALES". Beginning in the 1900's and continuing through the 1930's, many of the openers had a special modification added. It was a small square hole, which opened and closed the gas-powered Prest-O-Lite valves on the covers of the auto's headlamps.
VINTAGE:
Circa 1900's.
SIZE:Approximately 3" length and 3/4" width.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Nickel plated steel.
ATTACHMENT:Round hole for keyring attachment and square hole designed to open and close gas-powered Prest-o-lite valves on automobile headlights.
MARKINGS:"PICNIC TRADE MARK", "REG. U.S. PAT OFF." and the reverse, "PAT. FEB 19, 1901", "A.W. STEPHENS MFG. CO. WALTHAM, MASS."
