Description
This is a named 1890s membership badge in 14 karat gold for the New York Woman's Press Club, which was founded in 1889 by Jane Cunningham Croly. The badge is a golden torch with a diamond gracing the base of its flame crossed by a golden quill. The two symbols are partially encircled by a purple enameled ring and overlaid with the letters NY in script similar to today's New York Yankees' logo. The reverse is engraved with the member's name: B.L. CLARKE.
VINTAGE:Circa 1890s.
SIZE:Approximately 1-5/16" in height and 13/16" in width.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:14 karat gold with enamel and diamond.
ATTACHMENT:Horizontal pin with drop-in locking swivel catch.
MARKINGS:B. L. CLARKE, CBC maker's mark and 14K.
