ARTIFACT: Scarce circa 1900 Census Enumerator badge. The shield shaped badge is topped with an eagle, wings spread and head towards the sky. The top of the shield shows thirteen stars and the background displays stylized vertical stripes. The body of the badge shows nice scroll/banner embellishments that read: "UNITED STATES CENSUS 1900". The census that took place on June 1, 1900 was the nation's twelfth, and determined the United States' population to be 76,212,168. It is a comparatively very important census since much of 1890 census was damaged in a fire.

VINTAGE: Circa 1900

SIZE: Approximately 1-11/16" x 1-3/16"

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Stamped nickel

ATTACHMENT: Safety style pin with 'C' catch.

MARKINGS: None.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a federal police and law enforcement collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. VAJX16 LAAEX8/16 SAAEX8/16

CONDITION: 8+ (Excellent): The badge shows mild to moderate wear and verdigris, overall handsome patina.
