ARTIFACT: This is a mint cased German War Merit Cross 1st class with swords. The cross is maker-marked L/11 for Wilhelm Deumer in LŸdenscheid, and is published in Detlev Niemann. The War Merit Cross was one step below the Iron Cross, and the version with swords was awarded to enlistees who demonstrated service above the call of duty (civilians could receive the cross without swords).

VINTAGE: Circa World War II.

SIZE: Approximately 1-7/8" in height and 1-7/8" in width; case: 2-3/4" square and 13/16" in depth.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Plated tombak, silk and velvet lined cardboard case.

ATTACHMENT: Vertical T-style pin with C catch; case: hinged with catch lock.

MARKINGS: L/11 on pin (Wilhelm Deumer mark); case: KERBACH & OESTERHELT DRESDEN A1.
