Description
This is an aikuchi ("fitting mouth") dagger in a delicate lacquered mount and sheath. The dagger dates from the Edo (Samurai period), which came to a close in 186The aikuchi style of knife is made without a hand guard (tsuba). The handle of the dagger is lacquered, and comes in a matching lacquered mount (sheath), which has some delicate areas.
VINTAGE:Circa mid 1800s.
SIZE:Dagger: approximately 11-1/2" in length and 1-3/4" in width.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Dagger: steel, brass, lacquered wood; sheath: lacquered wood.
ATTACHMENT:Rectangular loop on sheath.

CONDITION:7 (Very Fine): The knife has some small spots of light wear and tarnish; the sheath is overall in good condition but is becoming fragile along its lower curving edges.
