Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a rare, late WWII Italian Air Force Badge given to bomber pilots who had reached a certain level of experience. The badge is an oval wreath, and normally an Italian Royal crown would have appeared at the top. The crown was intentionally removed by an RSI (Repubblica Sociale Italiana) airman choosing to show allegiance to Mussolini and the Fascist cause, and flying with the ANR (Aeronautica Nazionale Republicana), the newly formed post-Italian armistice air force allied with Nazi Germany. The knot of Savoy is at the bottom with three aerial bombs at center.
