ARTIFACT: This is a Late Issue (WWII era) World War I, 27th Infantry Division US Army  Distinguished Service Cross & Purple Heart of Private Russell E. Laford. Laford quite possibly requested this as a replacement for a lost or damaged pair during the patriotic times of WWII to show his past exemplary service. This is a US Government engraved and issued pair of medals.
