ARTIFACT:
This is an incredible example of a WWI Italian M1912 Military Pilot sew-on Gilt Bronze Sleeve Wing Badge, which was jeweler modified for Right Pocket Wear by a US Navy or US Air Service Pilot member of the "Foggiani" who served with the Italian Air Force in WWI flying Caproni Bombers over the Alps to the Central Powers Cities to drop their payloads.
The jeweler attached the separate crown, and filled the 4 sew holes on the eagle to create a pin back wing badge. I’m sure when it was new, the fresh gilding hid the hand work, but now more than a century later, the patina of time makes them more noticeable, while not detracting at all from the presence.
Sadly, it is not known which American WWI Pilot originally owned this wing badge, but it stands on its own no matter.

World War I.
SIZE:
Approximately 1" in height x 2-1/2" in width.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Gilt Bronze.
ATTACHMENT:
Horizontal pin with drop-in locking catch.
MARKINGS:
N/A.

CONDITION:
9- (Excellent+): The wing shows tarnish on both wing and under the crown. The jeweler attached the separate crown, and filled the 4 sew holes on the eagle to create a pin back wing badge. I’m sure when it was new, the fresh gilding hid the hand work, but now more than a century later, the patina of time makes them more noticeable, while not detracting at all from the presence. Overall, it is in excellent condition and has great patina.
GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
