Description
This is a huge and beautiful circa 1943 jacket patch for the United States Army Air Forces 92nd Fighter Squadron, 81st Fighter Group, 12th Air Force. The 92nd, also known as the "e;Skulls"e;, flew P-39 and P-38 aircraft. The patch is in hand-painted leather, and was probably made in North Africa. It shows a skull against a blue and white background shooting a red thunderbolt from both its mouth and eye socket.
VINTAGE:Circa mid World War II, 1943.
SIZE:Approximately 4-15/16" in height x 6-15/16" in width.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Hand-painted leather.
ATTACHMENT:To be sewn onto Flight Clothing.
MARKINGS:92nd FIGHTER (partial) written on reverse.

CONDITION:7 (Very Fine): The patch has some areas of minor discoloration; the leather is soft.
