ARTIFACT: This is a huge and beautiful circa 1943 jacket patch for the United States Army Air Forces 92nd Fighter Squadron, 81st Fighter Group, 12th Air Force. The 92nd, also known as the "e;Skulls"e;, flew P-39 and P-38 aircraft. The patch is in hand-painted leather, and was probably made in North Africa. It shows a skull against a blue and white background shooting a red thunderbolt from both its mouth and eye socket.

VINTAGE: Circa World War II (1943).

SIZE: Approximately 4-15/16" in height and 6-15/16" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Hand-painted leather.

ATTACHMENT: None.

MARKINGS: 92nd (hard to read the rest) written on reverse.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a United States Army Air Forces collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. VBJJX12 LIEJX12/12

CONDITION: 7 (Very Fine): The patch has some areas of minor discoloration; the leather is soft.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
