ARTIFACT:
This is a great World War II sterling silver Convair (Consolidated-Vultee Aircraft) test or corporate pilot hat badge. Consolidated was formed in 1923 and soon gained fame for its production of flying boats (seaplanes). In 1943 Consolidated Aircraft merged with Vultee Aircraft to form Consolidated-Vultee Aircraft (Convair). The badge is a ring with an eagle perched inside it.
VINTAGE:
Circa World War II.
SIZE:
Approximately 1-5/16" in height and 2-5/16" in width.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Sterling silver with painted lettering and brass backing.
ATTACHMENT:
Single screw post with disc backing.
MARKINGS:
STERLING.
