ARTIFACT: This is a Great Old 1870's - 1880's New Britain Connecticut Police Badge. This unique shield-shaped badge is considered the First Issue badge of the New Britain Connecticut Police Department. 


The City, and the Police Department, were founded in 1871. I am not certain how long this 1st issue badge type was worn, but I would assume at least 20 years or so, as I would expect this badge to have actually been manufactured in the 1880's based on the large heavy-duty T pin. 

VINTAGE: 1870's - 1880's.

SIZE: Approximately 2-5/16" in height x 2" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Nickel plated nickel.

ATTACHMENT: Vertical T pin with tongue type C catch.

MARKINGS: N/A.
