ARTIFACT:
1938 Mercedes-Benz Model: 170 Type: V gray armored color with TOTAL professional restoration in 2012. Restoration was done using original parts from 1938 and the car is fully functional. The Mercedes-Benz V170 was introduced at the Berlin Auto Exhibition in 1936. The V170 is powered by a naturally aspirated 1.9L engine and features side valve gear, 4 cylinder layout, and 2 valves per cylinder, with an output of 59 bhp (60 PS/44 kW) of power at 3600 rpm.
This power is delivered to the wheels by means of a 4 speed manual transmission and its top speed claims to be 112 km/h or approximately 70 mph (the factory declares 108km/h). This model is pre-war, during WWII the German manufacturing plant incurred heavy bomb damage, despite wartime setbacks, Mercedes-Benz was able to maintain ownership and access to its plant helping the manufacturer to emerge from the destruction of war with a significant competitive advantage over many of its pre-war competitors such as BMW, Adler, and Ford in Germany.
