ARTIFACT:
Probably the finest example of a WWI Prussian Observer (Beobachterabzeichen) badge in 800 silver by Juncker that I have ever seen. Cased. Badge depicts the enameled flag of the German tactical symbol for an Army Corps surrounded by oak leaves on one side and laurel leaves on the other joined together at the bottom in a bow, atop is a Prussian crown.
This badge, although in an excellent state of preservation, is by no means "Mint Unused": this badge was worn, and polished at least once, by its original owner. And the case is not mint: there is wear around the edges from a century of storage. BUT, this badge is the finest example of an Imperial German Prussian Observer Badge by Juncker that I have seen. The central enameled medallion is perfect, with just a film of the decades on it. There is light tarnish and extremely light wear to the badge, along with some of the original finish still being intact. Where the badge really stands out is on the back. Again, light tarnish, and lighter wear, and even a bit of polish reside sitting alongside some of the original finish. But at center are just perfect textbook Juncker markings, and the most exquisite fold over prongs I have ever seen on the back of one of these badges. Usually clunky nickel, these are the thinnest sheet silver, perfectly folded over and crimped in tandem, all but completely covering the attachment holes in the back of the badge body so often flagrantly visible. This badge is just perfectly made, with just enough patina to show that it was there.
I've thought seriously about purchasing this badge and selling the cased badge in my own collection in its stead. And still may, but offering this one for sale at present.
