Description
This is an extremely rare circa 1947 blimp pilot hat badge from the Douglas Leigh Advertising Corporation. It is a huge, stunning badge in gilt brass and black and white enamel with a raised gilt blimp flying past the initials "DL" at the center. Douglas Leigh was an advertising pioneer who revolutionized signage in New York, most famously in Times Square. He also had a sky advertising company that used surplus United States Navy airships from World War II as the vehicles for promotion. The badge is by R. Stoll Incorporated of New York.
