Description

ARTIFACT:

This is an extremely rare circa 1944 United States Army 331st Anti-Aircraft Artillery (AAA) Searchlight Battalion pocket patch. A part of the Fifth Army, the 331st served with at Salerno and Anzio, Italy, eventually snuffing out the German Luftwaffe and providing protection for the US ground forces that took Rome. The patch was made in Italy and is embroidered in bullion and silk upon woven wool. The shield-shaped patch bears a trio of searchlights done in gold with a small wool felt plane at their congruence. There is a small banner reading "MOONLIGHT CAVALRY" near the base of the central ray.

Circa 1944 (World War II).

SIZE:

Approximately 4-1/4" in height and 4" in width.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Woven wool felt embroidered in bullion and cotton/silk thread.
