Extremely rare circa 1930 Italian RUNA (Reale Union Nazionale Aeronautica) handmade pilot wing. The wing was likely made by or for the Civil Pilot who wore them, and who possibly went on to fly for the Italian Air Force. RUNA was a flying club sponsored by the government and members their own wings to wear on flight jackets and/or civilian wear. This example features a high deco style and shows the crowned eagle as opposite the military version of an Italian pilot wing. The RUNA wing faces to the viewer's left, and a military pilot wing shows the eagle and crown facing the right. This is also an early example of the club's wing, as it does not show the fasces shield, which was adopted when they took on the RUNA acronym. The wing was possibly made in the North African Italian colonies during the 1930's.
See the photo (image 9) showing an example of the Reale Union Nazionale Aeronautica lapel badge.
