This is an extremely rare Civil War fork, spoon and knife combination mess kit. This set was patented in 1861 by W.H. Richards of Boston, Massachusetts and is marked on both interlocking pieces. One piece has a spoon bowl on one end and fork tines on the other; the other piece serves as a flat knife.
VINTAGE:Circa Civil War.
SIZE:Approximately 8-3/4" in length by 1-3/4" in width (when closed).
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Steel.
ATTACHMENT:Interlocking.
MARKINGS:W.H. RICHARDS PATENT JULY 23 1861 BOSTON on each piece.
