Description

ARTIFACT:

This is an English-made patch for the United States Army Americal Division. The name Americal came from combining "American, New Caledonian Division" because the group was formed on New Caledonia immediately after Pearl Harbor attack. Later named the 23rd Infantry Division, Americal is one of only two Army divisions to be known by a name rather than a number during the war. The patch shows four white stars against a field of blue.
