ARTIFACT:
This is an early World War II pocket patch for a Pan Am Airways Africa (also known as PAA Ferries) pilot. Roosevelt and Churchill approached Pan Am to form a subsidiary that would have outposts in Africa, and the venture became instrumental in supplying Allied troops in Egypt and Sudan. The patch is in khaki embroidered in dark blue and reads PAA by the winged globe logo, which bears the word AFRICA.
VINTAGE:
Circa early World War II.
SIZE:
Approximately 1-3/8" in height and 3-3/4" in width.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Cotton embroidered in cotton/silk threads with muslin backing.
ATTACHMENT:
To be sewn onto uniform.
