ARTIFACT: It is a VERY Early War Karl Poellath made badge that obviously saw a good deal of service. the deeply cut ribbon at bottom, un-pierced crown, and flat, actually slightly convex, and completely unribbed back plate all point to the earliest period of Poellath manufacture.

It was lovingly, and very professionally, repaired during the period-of-use. The cross at top was re-attached (or replaced: hard to tell, and not even noticeable form the front), the “T” pin was replaced onto the original hinge, and a catch with decorative base was applied to replace the original.

Presumably a hard landing ripped the original findings off. The replacements are lovingly done, and are a bit more delicate-looking than the originals. A lovely patina is also in place, although the contrast of the light box does not do the badge justice: in hand it looks like a perfect little time capsule.
