ARTIFACT: This is a Early Circa 1890's 4th Issue Baltimore Maryland Police Badge # 682. Originally Issued to Officer James E. Schmidt of the Northern District in 1894, who served until 1923.

You can see this badge pictured with its matching hat badge at PoliceGuide.com. Sadly, we do not know where the hat badge has gone to, the collector we purchased this from only had the breast badge.

The 4th Issue Badge was worn for over 80 years by the department, but these earliest examples are easily spotted by their heavy nickel construction, hand stamped (often sloppily, as in this case) numbers, and the “Zeppelin Hanger” enclosed tube type catch.

VINTAGE: Circa 1890's.

SIZE: Approximately 2-1/2" in height x 2-3/16" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Nickel plated nickel.

ATTACHMENT: Vertical kick pin with Tube type C catch.

MARKINGS: N/A.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a police and law enforcement collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. ZCJIV20 LGGEX11/28/20 SGGEX02/09/21

CONDITION: 8- (Very Fine - Excellent): The badge shows moderate wear,

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
