ARTIFACT: This is a large circa early 1890s horse racing track official badge for Monmouth Park Association. Monmouth Park opened its doors in 1870 in Long Branch, New Jersey. The track was popular but operated only a little over two decades before New Jersey cracked down on betting in the state. In 1946 legislation changed, and the park reopened. The badge has some finely engraved details and a number "66" applied at its center. It is by C.G. Braxmar of New York and has a maker mark on reverse from 1890, the year Braxmar moved from 36 Cortlandt Street.

VINTAGE: Circa early 1890s.

SIZE: Approximately 2-1/2" in height and 2-5/16" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Nickel-plated brass, brass.

ATTACHMENT: Vertical kick pin with C catch.

MARKINGS: C.G. Braxmar 36 Cortlandt St. New York.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a horse racing collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. VAJJX13 LCDEX11/13 SCDEX12/13

CONDITION: 7+ (Excellent+): The badge has some small spots of light to medium wear.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
