ARTIFACT: This is an early (circa 1870s) Chicopee, Massachusetts Fire Department hat badge. Chicopee is a small town on the Connecticut River in Western Massachusetts, and home to the Westover Air Reserve Base, built the year before the US joined World War II. The badge is in the shape of a cross and is of the sew-on type, with small holes at the end of each arm.

VINTAGE: Circa 1870s.

SIZE: Approximately 2-1/8" square.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Plated stamped brass.

ATTACHMENT: Holes.

MARKINGS: None.

CONDITION: 7- (Very Fine-): The badge has some small areas of medium wear/slight bending and one small spot of light oxidation.
