ARTIFACT: Cool, Cold War 1980's Naval Air Station South Weymouth, Massachusetts mug with reference to the base's part in the United States Air Force Electronic Systems Division. The Weymouth USNAS began operations during WWII and continued through 1997. The base's main mission during the war was to provide anti-submarine blimp operational support. The front of the mug depicts a blue shield with an outline of New England in read with a yellow circle that reads: "72" in the center and shows black arrows pointing out in three directions. Above the outline of New England it shows a US Naval pilot wing and surrounding the shield it reads: "USNAS SOUTH WEYMOUTH, MASS." and the mug's original owner's initials are beneath the shield: "J F O' N" (specialized for a name like John Frank O'Neil). The reverse of the mug shows a blue shield with a light blue globe bearing yellow longitude and latitude lines with electricity bolts coming from both sides, and a white arrow rising up from the top; beneath it reads: "ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS DIVISION”.
