Description
This is a Civil War Union Army bayonet for a .58 caliber rifle. The bayonet is a relic that was excavated at the Fredericksburg battlefield site circa 1900. Fredericksburg was a five-day battle that happened between the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia and the Union Army of the Potomac a few weeks before Christmas, 186The soldier whose bayonet was unearthed was on the losing side for that meeting.
VINTAGE:Circa Civil War.
SIZE:Bayonet: approximately 20-3/4" in length and 7/8" in diameter at neck; blade only: 17-2/4" in length by 3/4" in width (at widest point).
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Steel.
