This is a fleam from the Civil War era or an earlier period. It has three posts with puncture points, and was made by Joseph Rodgers and Sons. It is in excellent condition. The fleam was a tool used by surgeons for bloodletting: this design may possibly have been used on animals.
VINTAGE:Circa Civil War or earlier.
SIZE:Approximately 3-3/8" in length and 1-3/16" in height and 5/16" in width (folded).
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Brass, steel.
ATTACHMENT:Rivet.
MARKINGS:Joseph Rodgers & Sons maker mark.
