ARTIFACT:
This is a Civil War unit history, "Henry Wilson's Regiment: History of the 22nd Infantry, Second Sharpshooters. Third Light Battery, Massachusetts Volunteers", by John L. Parker. Henry Wilson, Major General of militia, US senator and chairman of the Military Committee, was responsible for assembling the regiment. He had turned down an offer of a Brigadier General commission from President Lincoln, but later assumed the rank of Colonel and command of the 22nd. The aim of this book was to present a picture of life in the unit from muster through to the victory parades and how soldiers were received. It was published in 1887 by the Franklin Press of Boston, Massachusetts. The book has several period portrait photographs of some of men as well as illustrations. The book contains a roster, or "Alphabetical Roll".
