Description
This is a circa 1950 International Science & Engineering Fair (ISEF) finalist medal, possibly for the first fair ever. The fair for pre-college contestants was the culmination of a few decades of effort to have clearer communication between scientists and the general public, spearheaded in 1921 by famous journalist and spelling bee co-founder, E.W. Scripps. Scripps established the Science Service, which led to greater public interest in scientific achievement and the eventual proliferation of science clubs around the nation. The badge is in sterling silver with 10 karat gold and hangs from a rainbow-hued ribbon.
VINTAGE:Circa 1950.
SIZE:Approximately 2-7/8" in height and 1-3/8" in width.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Sterling silver, 10 karat gold, silk.
ATTACHMENT:Suspension ring, ribbon, horizontal pin with on bar with drop-in locking swivel catch.
