Description

ARTIFACT:

Circa 1930's Ð WWII USS Texas BB-35 Pass Badge #8, as issued by the Brooklyn New York Bureau of Identification. The USS Texas developed a reputation as a jinxed or unlucky ship after several accidents early in her career, e.g. construction problems, grounding off the coast of Newport, RI, and flooding while at dock in NYC, consequently earning the nickname "Old Hoodoo". The stamped cardstock read"IDENTIFICATION BUREAU NAVY YARD BROOKLYN NEW YORK" and is stamped "U.S.S. Texas 8" in ink.

Stamped nickel, celluloid, stamped cardstock paper.

Vertical pin with drop in swivel locking catch.
