ARTIFACT: This is a circa 1890s lapel badge for the Order of American Firemen, or O.A.F. Established in 1886, O.A.F. was a once-powerful fraternal order for firefighters. The badge is by Braxmar of New York and shows a crescent moon and an eagle at the center of a five-pointed star which has the letters N E W S on four of its arms.

VINTAGE: Circa 1890s.

SIZE: Approximately 1-3/16" in height and 1-1/4" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Copper-plated brass.

ATTACHMENT: Vertical T-style pin with C catch.

MARKINGS: PAT. AP'D FOR BRAXMAR N.Y.; FWC RAV(?) scratched on reverse.

CONDITION: 7+ (Very Fine+): The badge shows light wear and tarnish and has a few very small spots of oxidation.
