Description
This is a circa 1890s lapel badge for the Order of American Firemen, or O.A.F. Established in 1886, O.A.F. was a once-powerful fraternal order for firefighters. The badge is by Braxmar of New York and shows a crescent moon and an eagle at the center of a five-pointed star which has the letters N E W S on four of its arms.
VINTAGE:Circa 1890s.
SIZE:Approximately 1-3/16" in height and 1-1/4" in width.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Copper-plated brass.
ATTACHMENT:Vertical T-style pin with C catch.
MARKINGS:PAT. AP'D FOR BRAXMAR N.Y.; FWC RAV(?) scratched on reverse.
