Circa 1888 stunning, large format Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream printed in Nuremburg, Germany by Ernest Nister. The United States Edition was published by Dutton. The front features beautiful gilt details and features a gorgeous center color image. The thick pages feature whimsical illustrations and nice, gilt edges. This book is a lovely example, all pages are present, but sadly only two of the six original lithographs are present (see below for detailed condition). The cover page reads: "A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE. NEW YORK: E. P. DUTTON & COMPANY, 31, WEST TWENTY-THIRD STREET" and the reverse shows a nice illustration and beneath reads: "PRODUCED AND PRINTED BY ERNEST NISTER AT NUREMBURG. COPYRIGHT."
Approximately 15" in height x 12" in width, and approximately 1-1/4" in depth.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Gilt canvas cover, thick paper board, thick card stock, lithograph painting, tissue paper, gilt edges, ink, glue.
Sewn, glued binding (showing separation internally).
