This is a large circa 1880's - 1890's Fairfield, Kansas police circle star badge. The badge reads POLICE FAIRFIELD and shows a five-pointed star within a circle bearing a "1".
Fairfield Kansas was in Wabaunsee County, West of Topeka, from the 1870's to at least the early 1890's, but there is little historical record of the Town.
There was also a Fairfield in Jefferson County, Northeast of Topeka, but that town likely did not exist past 1870.
