ARTIFACT: This is an early fire department badge from either Portland, Maine or Portland, Connecticut. The badge shows a fireman's hat and horn at top and is numbered 1.

VINTAGE: Circa 1860s.

SIZE: 2" height and 1-3/8" width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Nickel-plated brass.

ATTACHMENT: Loop catch only (original vertical pin is missing).

MARKINGS: J. M. (McLEOD?) & SON PHILA.

CONDITION: 6 (Fine+): Badge has heavy wear and tarnish and pin is missing.
