ARTIFACT: Beautiful, exquisitely carved late 19th century Lion of Lucerne in antique ivory. The Lion Monument in Lucerne, Switzerland was designed by Bertel Thorvaldsen in the 1820's carved in beautiful relief detail into sandstone rock above a pond. The Lion Monument is a memorial for the soldiers from Switzerland who died in the French Revolution, serving King Louis XVI, it depicts a giant dying lion impaled by a spear, covering a shield bearing the fleur-de-lis of the French monarchy and another shield bearing the coat of arms of Switzerland.

VINTAGE: Circa late 19th century

SIZE: Approximately 2-3/4" x 1"
