ARTIFACT: This is a United States 80th Fighter Squadron, 8th Fighter Group, 5th Air Force patch from World War II. The 80th was nicknamed "The Headhunters" after a tribe of sympathetic New Guinea natives. The 80th flew P-39, P-38 and P-40 aircraft. The patch was designed by a crew chief who had turned down a job as a Disney illustrator, and shows the head of a New Guinea native with goggles.

VINTAGE: Circa World War II.

SIZE: Approximately 6-1/16" in height and 4-3/4" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Felt embroidered in cotton/silk threads with paper backing.

ATTACHMENT: N/A.

CONDITION: 7 (Very Fine): The patch shows some small spots where the felt is missing and some of the backing has come off.
