ARTIFACT:

This is a 1983 participant badge for Yama Sakura (translation: mountain cherry blossom) V, the second-ever annual joint defense exercise event involving the United States Army and the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force. Beginning in February 1982 as field exercises, Yama Sakura is now computer-simulated command post exercise. The badge reads NORTHEASTERN ARMY IX CORPS YAMA SAKURA V and 1983 SENDAI, JAPAN on reverse.

Circa 1983.

Approximately 1-3/8" in diameter.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Silver-plated brass.

ATTACHMENT:

Horizontal safety-style pin with tube.
