Description
This is a rare Boy Scouts of America Sea Scouts scrapbook, journal, graded essay and published Sea Scout flood map from the 1936 flood in western Massachusetts centered around Northampton. Edward Banas authored the five-day journal from March 1936 and graded essay on the flood, and selected various newspaper clippings documenting the devastation caused by the swollen Connecticut River. The fold-out area map was produced by the Sea Scouts of Ship Number 11The excessively rainy weather and rapid snow melt that March resulted in flooding in several New England states, but the area of Northampton was particularly hard hit.

SIZE:Scrapbook: 36 double-sided pages, approximately 11-1/2 in height and 8-1/4" in width; map unfolded is about 16" by 21"; report: 3 pages; journal: 6 pages.
