Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a circa 1934 celluloid pin for the September 5, 1934 dedication ceremony of the Little Bay (also referred to as the General Sullivan) Bridge spanning the Little Bay where it meets the Piscataqua River, reaching from Durham and Dover New Hampshire to neighboring Newington, next to Portsmouth. Although no longer in use, the bridge is still standing and is the only surviving example of a special design of bridge by Fay, Spofford, and Thorndike.

VINTAGE:

Circa 1934.

SIZE:

Approximately 2" in height and 1-5/8" in width (including ribbon).

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Celluloid-wrapped tin, silk.

ATTACHMENT:

Straight pin.

MARKINGS:

Pilgrim Badge & Specialty Co. 299 Washington St. Boston, Mass. and union mark.
