ARTIFACT: This is a 1931 homecoming celluloid pin for pilot Joe Polanda of Lynn, Massachusetts. This pin was made to celebrate Polando's return to the States after set a long distance record flight between New York and Istanbul, Turkey earlier in the year. The pin is by Whitehead & Hoag, and shows a head shot of Polando flanked by the American and Turkish flags.

VINTAGE: Circa 1931.

SIZE: Approximately 1-1/4" in diameter.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Celluloid-wrapped tin, paper backing.

ATTACHMENT: Straight pin.

MARKINGS: THE WHITEHEAD & HOAG CO. BUTTONS, BADGES, NOVELTIES AND SIGNS NEWARK, N.J.
