Description

ARTIFACT:

This is a circa 1930s (YMCA) Young Men's Christian Association "Advanced" level swimming award lapel pin. The Association was started by a group of disillusioned young men in London in 1844 as a refuge from the social ills with which city life teemed. Nine years later the first American YMCA was set up at the old South Church in Boston, Massachusetts by a former sea captain. The pin shows a youth diving past the YMCA's triangle logo.

VINTAGE:

Circa 1930s.

SIZE:

Approximately 5/8" in diameter.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

Gilt brass.

ATTACHMENT:

Single screw post, sleeved disc backing, stabilization post.

None.
