ARTIFACT:

Circa 1930's - 1940's Michigan Department of State badge for the Secretary of State's personal staff member Rudolph Tenerowicz by Weyring in Detroit. Rudolph Tenerowicz immigrated to the U.S. with his family in the late 1800's. He served in WWI as a First Lieutenant in the Army Medical Corps and later served as Captain of the Medical Reserve Corps until 193He was elected mayor of Hamtramck, Michigan and served from 1928 - 1932, but was indicted on bribery/vice conspiracy charges with twelve others and sentenced to prison, later pardoned by Governor Comstock and returned to serve as mayor from 1936 - 193He was a seven year member of the Wayne County Board of Supervisors before being elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-sixth and Seventy-seventh Congress. He was unsuccessful in his run for re-nomination in 194Tenerowicz became a Republican and ran for Congress another half-dozen times, but was unsuccessful. He and his wife are buried in Arlington National Cemetery. x000D The body of the badge is ornately detailed similar to the Great Seal of the State of Michigan, at the very center a shield that reads: "TUEBOR" (I Will Defend) and the surrounding scene is a man/soldier tent side, standing beneath an American flag with the horizon in the background. Perched atop the shield is a bald eagle in lovely, high relief detail and the sides show a rearing elk and moose. Three raised banners/scrolls read: "RUDOLPH TENEROWICZ PERSONAL STAFF DEPT. OF STATE" and the shield shaped badge is topped with a spread-winged eagle with a downed head. The reverse shows a maker's mark that reads: "WEYRING DETROIT" x000D See the photos: Tenerowicz and President Roosevelt.PHOTOS INCLUDED AS HISTORICAL REFERENCE ONLY
