Description
This is a unique circa 1930 trench art 75 mm shell for VO-8M (Marine Observation Squadron 8). Originally Marine Observation Squadron One, VO-8M was reorganized July 1, 1927 while serving in Nicaragua, later becoming VMO-Engaging in the Battle of Ocotal, the new squadron made history as the first to carry out the first known (and successful) dive-bombing maneuver against an organized enemy. One side of the shell bears a huge Ace of Spades, the squadron's insignia, against a pebbly textured background.
