ARTIFACT: 1910's - 1920's Portland Gas Light Co. employee badge from Portland, Maine. The company was in operation from 1852 until the arrival of the interstate natural gas pipeline in 1965. During operation, the company employed hundreds of workers with a variety of positions from maintaining supply to the city's street lamps to residential stoves, hot water and gas heaters. As a result of the new interstate pipeline, Portland and Lewiston Gas Companies merged together in 1966 forming Northern Utilities, now owned and operated by Unitil. The oval badge features the number "38" in the center and surrounding it reads: "PORTLAND GAS LIGHT CO."

VINTAGE: Circa 1910's ??? 1920's

SIZE: Approximately 2" x 1-1/4"

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Nickel plated brass

ATTACHMENT: Horizontal kick pin with drop in locking swivel catch.

MARKINGS: None.

CONDITION: 8- (Very Fine - Excellent): Badge shows minor to moderate wear and nearly all of the plating details remain intact along with much of the painted details.
