ARTIFACT:
This is a beautiful oval serving plate from the Rockingham Hotel in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The Rockingham Hotel was a luxurious establishment started by larger-than-life local hero Frank Jones and which operated until 1973 (today the former hotel consists of condo units and a restaurant). The plate is edged in lovely purple irises and is by Mitchell-Woodbury Company of Boston.
VINTAGE:
Circa 1890s.
SIZE:
Approximately 10-7/16" in length and 7-1/4" in width.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Painted ceramic.
