ARTIFACT: This is a beautiful circa 1880s or 1890s belt buckle for the United States Revenue Cutter Service, an early federal agency tasked with enforcing maritime regulations. At one time answerable to the Department of Treasury, the Cutter Service merged with the US Life Saving Service in 1915 to form the United States Coast Guard. The buckle has a period conversion to a pin-back for the owner's unique application. It is in gilt bronze and shows an eagle perched upon an anchor framed by boughs of leaves.

VINTAGE: Circa 1880s-1890s.

SIZE: Approximately 2-1/4" in height and 2-7/8" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Gilt bronze, nickel findings.

ATTACHMENT: Horizontal pin with C catch.

MARKINGS: None.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a US Revenue Cutter Service collection that we will be listing more of over the next few months.  MBJJX14 LFGEX5/14

CONDITION: 7+ (Very Fine+): The buckle has light wear and tarnish.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
