At one time answerable to the Department of Treasury, the Cutter Service merged with the US Life Saving Service in 1915 to form the United States Coast Guard. The buckle has a period conversion to a pin-back for the owner's unique application. It is in gilt bronze and shows an eagle perched upon an anchor framed by boughs of leaves.

VINTAGE: Circa 1880s-1890s.

SIZE: Approximately 2-1/4" in height and 2-7/8" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Gilt bronze, nickel findings.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a US Revenue Cutter Service collection that we will be listing more of over the next few months.  MBJJX14 LFGEX5/14
