Description

ARTIFACT:

This is an 1857 California gold dollar that was fashioned into a stickpin sometime in the 1870s or 1880s. The dollar is in high karat gold and the pin is in gold-plated nickel. The front of the dollar, which measures only 7/16" in diameter, shows an Indian head and the reverse reads CALIFORNIA GOLD. This would most likely have been worn as a cravat pin.

VINTAGE:

Circa 1857 dollar made into pin circa 1870s-1880s.

SIZE:

Approximately 2-1/8" in length and 7/16" in width (diameter of coin).

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:

High karat gold coin, gold-plated nickel pin.

ATTACHMENT:

Stick pin.
