ARTIFACT: This is a German comb morion that dates to the 17th century, and is possibly from Nuremberg. Each side of the helmet has a lightly hand-embossed fleur-de-lis, the symbol of Charlemagne, who ruled the Holy Roman Empire at the beginning of the ninth century (Nuremberg was considered the "unofficial seat" of the Empire). The crown of the helmet has a front to back "comb", and the rim is flared and meets in both the front and back in a peak. This is a lightweight, police or guard version of the morion, and not suited for wear during battles.

VINTAGE: Circa 17th century.

SIZE: Approximately 8-1/2" in height and 10-1/2" in length, 8-7/8" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Steel.

ATTACHMENT: Hole at top of comb, hole for plume at back of helmet (plume not present -see last photo), "rivets" joining rim to body of helmet.

MARKINGS: None.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a German collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. KEZAR CON-DB-25-AJJX12 LAHEJX10/12 SAEJJX6/16

CONDITION: 7 (Very Fine): The morion is structurally sound with some areas of oxidation.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
