ARTIFACT: This is an early (circa 1870s!) member badge or medal for the Centennial Legion of Historic Military Commands. The Legion is a veterans' organization that was formed on the United States' 100th birthday to promote the patriotism and military commands of the thirteen original states. The medal has a bar at the top with a horizontal fasces and a medallion with a daisy-like design in which each of the 13 original states is a starred circle that overlaps its neighbor's. The reverse of the medal shows a shield flanked by six flags and a hat on a pike. The medallion also has a red, white and blue striped ribbon.

VINTAGE: Circa 1870s.

SIZE: Approximately 2-1/4" in height (including ribbon) and 1-1/4" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Bronze/copper-plated brass, silk.

ATTACHMENT: Horizontal T-style pin on bar with C catch, suspension ring.

MARKINGS: None.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a veterans' association collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. VEM14 LAAEX3/14 SIJX10/15

CONDITION: 7+ (Very Fine+): The badge has only light wear; ribbon is somewhat worn/faded.
