ARTIFACT:
WWII United States Army Air Forces Airborne Troop Carrier Pilot Shirt that is loaded with insignia, wings, etc. A wool knit US Army Officer's shirt in khaki with a nice full-size USAAF pilot wing in sterling, unknown maker variant. Minty Branch of Service and rank insignia, in base metal, all with WWII clutchbacks. USAAF 1ST Troop Carrier Command DIs in pinback sterling (unmarked) in LeVelle pattern. USAAF HQ Shoulder patch US Made on twill. USAAF Airborne Troop Carrier Shoulder Patch English Made on felt. Ribbon bars under wing, from top left: Air Medal, American Theater of Operations, European Theater of Operations with 2 Battle Stars, WWII Victory, and Army of Occupation.
The primary mission of the Troop Carrier Command was troop and logistics transport. The primary aircraft used by the Troop Carrier Command was the C-47 Skytrain and later C-46 Commando aircraft. The Troop Carrier Command was inactivated on 4 November 1945. Blue enameled DI that features an eagle carrying a soldier through the air in its talons, the base reads: "VINCIT QUI PRIMUM GERIT" ("He Conquers Who Gets There First")

Approximately 23" (armpit to armpit), 17-1/2" (across back shoulder to shoulder), 25" from shoulder seam to end of cuff and about 32" from base of collar to bottom of waistband, neck is 16". Wing: 3" in length x 7/8" in height; Ribbon bars: 2-3/4" in length x 3/8" in height and 4-1/8" in length x 3/8" in height; DIs: 1 1/16" in height x 1" in width; HQ Patch 2-1/2" in diameter; Airborne Patch: 3-1/2" in height x 2-7/8" in width; Rank: 1" in length x 3/8" in width.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Wool, sterling, enamel, gilt brass, silk/cotton embroidered wool felt and twill.

Wing: Horizontal pin with drop in locking catch; Collar Insignia: Double post with clutch backs; Rank Bars: Double post with clutch backs; Ribbon Bars: Double posts with clutch backs; DI: Vertical pin with drop in locking catch.

CONDITION:
8+ (Excellent): One button has been replaced and repair to sleeve located near Troop Carrier patch (see photo). The sterling wing shows minor to moderate wear and an overall handsome patina, overall excellent condition.
